Too Funny!

Sorry, one more!

Sunday we had a stake high councilman speak in our ward, Matthew Brady.  He gave a great talk on Hope.  But what I really want to write about is... during his talk he was talking about fortune cookies.  He mentioned that his wife has this pocket in her purse that stuff goes into that you never use or see again, then he started listing things like old mint wrappers, lint, fortune cookie fortunes, temple reccommends, old receipts, etc.  He didn't skip a beat, he went on with his point.  Tiffany was doing her "thing" on the bench, coloring or what not. She pops up and looks at me with a really confused look on her face and says, "Temple Recommend?"  It took me a minute to realize that she was actually listening to the talk!!!   I explained to her that he was joking, and she smiled.  I had to tell him afterwards, laughingly, that he better be careful what he says over the pulpit, you never know who might be listening!

I just had to write this one down so I wouldn't forget!  (This one is the real reason for this post!)

Out of the blue this morning Tiffany (age 6) asked me if "Broccoli" Obama was the president!

I had to really convince her it was Barrack Obama.  She insisted that Nana told her his name was Broccoli!!

LOLOL   I Sooooo love it!!

Stake Champions!!

The boys from our ward won the Stake Basketball Championship on Wednesday!  They have worked hard practising for a few months to get ready, all their work has paid off!

I thought it was so cool to see the girls and the boys who weren't playing coming to the games to cheer them on with cheers and posters!  This last game the girls actually ditched YW to come!  The rest of them ended up coming over afterall!!

Cute little cheer leaders!

Fun New "Do"

I was blog hopping again, I sure wish I had more time to do that, it's amazing what you can find out there.  I know, it also can be such a waste of time.  I try not to waste too much, but it is fun.  This time I found a little tutorial on how to do a basic hair rope!  I can't believe how easy it was!!

From that blog I found a cute girls hair style blog, Wow!!

I actually did Tiffany's and Kimberly's for school that day, but didn't get a pic before they left and by the time they got home from a full day at school, it really wasn't picture worthy!! Lol

I just had to put in these last two because they are so cute!!

Finally in Price!!

Shawn is finally in Price!! He left Wednesday night, late.  He said he got there about 11 pm.  Found a place to park his car, he said by some trail head, and slept in the car.  His plan was just to get there, for now he has no where to really stay or do!  He left with less than $50 bucks in his pocket and some food storage in the trunk of his car!  I sent him a butane burner to cook on, and he is just going for it!!

He has been trying to get there to go to school at the College of Eastern Utah for about 3 years!  One thing after another has kept him from actually going!  I was so sad for him Jan 10th when he was still here when school started.  But he decided not to let that stop him this time!  He decided he just needed to get there, get a couple of jobs and get a place to stay, then he'll be ready to start school in the next semester!

Here's the message he sent me last night...

"Hey, so I finally got a chance to take a break. I got down here just after 11 last night, and have been non-stop busy all day today. Got up at 8am this morning so I could catch Terry Johnson before his day became to chaotic. Found out he already had me completely enrolled from this semester all the way through Spring of 2012. So, all I have to do for Summer Semester is pick my classes and pay my fees. Most of my scholarships are already in place to kick in for the Fall Semester and those that aren't yet are because the department won't be finalizing them until April (something to do with the merge with USU).

As far as work is concerned ~ Dollar Tree's hours have dropped even more instead of going up as anticipated. I will only be getting one shift every other week. However, Dana who is the GM there sent Dwaine's (GM in Bountiful's Dollar Tree) letter of recommendation as well as one of her own to Ben (Front End Manager at Walmart who Dana use to work for). So I went to talk to him and he said they are currently hiring and wants me to fill out an application. Interviews there start in a week, but Ben made it sound like I was a shoe in (But I've heard that before so we'll see what happens). At Smith's talked to Vickie who remembered talking to me, but just filled the position. Took down my name and number and said that I'd be the first person she called if something opens up because she talked to T.J. (Front End Manager at Bountiful's Smiths) who gave me a glowing review. Also, (back-tracking a little) while I was following Terry Johnson around getting everything set-up for school, I got talking to Shanny who was one of the ladies we had to talk to. I am now her back-up babysitter (it's actually more of a nanny position). And when she loses her full time babysitter the beginning of the summer I will be her full time babysitter. It'll be a full time position, but she also said if I can't do full time when the summer comes around she can get an addition babysitter to split the hours with me. Anyway, so far everything's looking up. Love ya both,

Shawn"

I took some pics of him the last night he was here to say good bye!

Tiff giving him a big long kiss Good bye!

The kids came running when they realized they weren't going to see him for a while!

I am excited for this "adventure" for him.  Off, really on his own, living out of his car and just trying to make his dreams come true!!

Good Luck, Sweetheart!!  We Love You!!

Hoover Dam

On our way to Cali, we decided to take the kids to see Hoover Dam.  We'd never been there and Kim is doing a report on the state of Nevada, we thought it would be fun for her to have a picture of herself there for her report!  It was pretty funny because they were all excited to see it, but really how long can you stand there looking at a Dam!  Needless to say, we didn't stay long and we didn't take any tours because they were $30 a person!  Not exactly the way I wanted to spend my money! Lol

On our way out, we stopped at the gift shop and got a couple things.  The kids were hilarious, they were pulling out their money and trying to spend upwards of $20 or more!  I had to remind them we were headed to Disneyland!!!  You don't want to spend your money at Hoover Dam when you're headed to Disneyland!!!

Driving across the top of the Dam.
One cool thing there was that the Dam crossed over the Nevada/Arizona border and since the two states are in two different time zones, they had clock towers on each side of the border with the "time" on them!  Fun!!

We got some lunch and got back on the road to Grandpa's house!  I'm pretty sure I mentioned the car trouble on the way there in a previous post.  What a Day!!

You can see the towers with the clocks from here,
They're on the other side of the dam.
This was cute, on our way out to the van from the gift shop, I told them to get in the van.  Little Nattie Bug climbed up on top of the luggage and spread out with a big huge smile on her face!!

Happy Valentines Day!

My Dear Sweet Hubby had to be to work early this morning, but that didn't stop him from running to the store BEFORE work to get me not one bouquet of flowers but two!!

Do I feel loved??

YES!!

Happy Valentines Day!!

Will Wonders Ever Cease???

Apparently NOT!!!

I just took my OLD 1989 Ford Van to get it inspected, fully expecting them to tell me it won't pass this year and to start car shopping.  It not only passed, but passed with FLYING COLORS!!

It did get us to Cali and back, but not with out some trouble.  Fortunately, it didn't dump us anywhere, but at one point we did have gray smoke coming out of the console between the two front seats inside the van!  We were in the middle of nowhere right before Baker.  We just rolled down the windows and kept right on going!!  Praying it wouldn't blow up!!  When we got into Baker, we tried to stop and see if someone could look at it, but nothing was open, so we just got back in the van and kept going!  It stunk pretty bad, something was burning.

On the Monday, we had the radiator and clutch fan replaced, almost $700.  Then the next day, I got suddenly sick on the way to Disneyland, so Doug had the exhaust looked at and sure enough we had 3 exhaust leaks into the inside of the van!  Another $250!  We decided in Cali that we were done with this old thing and were going to buy a van when we got home.

It did get us home with no problems.  In fact just about the time we were convinced that maybe after spending all that money on it, we can wait another year to buy a new one.  When about 3/4 of the way home the fan clutch went out again!!  We laughed and said maybe Heavenly Father is trying to tell us he's tired of holding this old thing together!!

I took it in just curious if it would pass.  I thought if  when I decide to sell it, it would give me an idea as to price if it passed or not.  Definately a selling point by passing!!

The nice thing is now I can take my time finding a van I want, at the right price!

Now the question???  Do I downsize?? or stick with a 12 passenger??  I can see advantages in both.  Decisions, Decisions.  LOL

I've decided, Wonders will NEVER cease!!

Have a Great Day!

Happy Birthday, Steven!

He decided on brownies & ice cream!
Yesterday was Steven's 15th Birthday!

I asked him if he wanted to skip school, I would excuse him from going.  But he would still be responsible for the work he missed.  I couldn't really excuse him from the work, but it was up to him.  I was surprised to see him decide to go!  He hates school!

He made sure we had the traditional waffles and ice cream!  I actually laughed when he asked for it, because he's usually late for school and doesn't even eat breakfast, unless I fix him something to eat in the car on the way there!  He assured me he would be ready in time to eat the waffles and ice cream!  And sure enough, he was showered and ready for breakfast by 7:30am!  Wow!  Now we both know he can actually do when he's motivated enough!  And apparently waffles and ice cream are motivation!!

It was nice to ask him last night when all was said and done if he'd had a good day, and he said,
"Yes, I'm happy"  I don't hear that too often from him, So I felt I had achieved success!!

He's now old enough for a driver's permit, but he has to get his academic and citizenship grades up for third term for it to happen.  You'd think that was motivation enough to get him to school on time, so far not, but I am still hopeful!!

Happy Birthday, Steven!

Vacation (same post, renamed)

There's so much to post about, I'm not sure just where to start and to boot I found this new feature that totally changes the way posting works.  I'm excited about the changes and hope it works like it says!

So anyway...way back in November I was in a quandary as to what to do for Christmas for the kids still living at home.  Things had been so hectic leading up to, I didn't get the chance to really think about Christmas, let along actually do anything about it.  I usually start Christmas shopping in September.  By December 1st I still didn't even know what I wanted to get them, let alone actually shop!

So in December we, really I, Doug just followed (lol), decided that the bulk of Christmas would be to take the kids to my Dad's in California and try the Disneyland thing again.  We were told that the Martin Luther Weekend was a Great time to go.  Not many lines.  So That's just what we did!

We left on January 14th the last day of the term!  The kids were only going to miss 3 days of school, because we had Martin Luther and the Tuesday.  They would also be missing the beginning of the term
instead of the end of the term.  Easier to make up!

We left after school, our goal was to make it to Mesquite, Nevada!  We stopped at the Nevada state line to take a picture of Kimberly in front of it because her state report this year is on Nevada, and she's been studying all about it.  We thought it would be fun for her cover!

Nattie Bug completely sacked out at the hotel!

We made it around 10 but with the time change it was really 9pm.  Natalie fell asleep in the car not long before we got there, but boy was she out!  We transferred her from the van to the room, brought stuff in the room, moved her to where she really was going to sleep, got ready for bed ourselves and she never even budged!

Saturday morning, I got up to run.  I'm not sure how far I ran, I was mainly in it for the time (it couldn't have been very far).  But the fun thing was that I ran across the Nevada/Arizona state line and back!  I think I can safely say I've never done that before! I tried to take a pic of myself in front of the sign, but not only did I not look that great because I'd been running, but I'm not that good at taking pics of myself!  Lol

We ate and headed out for the next leg of our journey.  Hoover Dam!

PS  well some of the changes are great, some are still very frustrating!  Hopefully it will get better as I learn how to navigate again!!

Still Alive!!

I don't know what exactly happened in January to warrant a complete abandonment of my blog, but I am alive and kicking, just wanted you to know! LOL

I'm hoping February is a better blogging month for me, but only time will tell!
