Nattie Bug's Birthday!

It's so hard to believe my little Nattie Bug is 4 years old!!  Her Birthday was on Wednesday.  She could hardly wait!  She was telling me over and over what she wanted for her bday.   For several weeks now, she's been asking for a Tinkerbell blanket among a couple other things.  I was so glad I could find one for her.  But even though I got her a couple of things she asked for I think her favorite was the pee wee pillow pet.  It was really a last minute addition, because when I saw it the night before her bday, it was too cute to pass up!

The night before, we blew up balloons until our cheeks hurt and put them all over the living room walls and ceiling.  She was excited to see so many balloons when she got up.  We have a tradition to let the younger kids open their presents before school so they can play with them all day while the rest of the kids are in school.  So, we had our little birthday party at 7am!  She opened her presents and we ate chocolate chip waffles with ice cream and chocolate syrup for breakfast!!

She had her heart set on going to the park.  And sure enough with the weather the way it's been, it was raining, of course.  She was so disappointed that I told her if she didn't mind her bottom getting wet, we could go for a little bit anyway.  She jumped at the chance!  What kind of Mom takes her kids to the park in the rain?   Well, I was the only mom there, but I wasn't the only parent!  There was one Dad and a Grandpa there with their kids/grand kids!  I rest my case!! We stayed until their bums were soaking wet and their little hands were freezing!  I kept asking her if she was ready to go home and she would say no, not yet.  Finally, when she commented on how cold her hands were, I offered lunch and hot chocolate if she went home, she agreed!

We spent the afternoon playing and making her cake.  I got this idea to make it into the shape of an Easter Bunny.  It's pretty obvious, A cake decorator I am not, but I gave it a try!  Good things she's 4 and it really didn't matter to her!  lol

We let her put her own candles on the cake.  Dad lit them of course!

She went to bed a very happy girl!

The night before our Wonderful Home Teacher came by with her bday gift!  It was a great way to get her excited for her big day!!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

I am way behind as usual!

Last week was Doug's Birthday.  On the Friday before I took him to pick out a curio cabinet.  Yup, you heard that right!  He's been talking about getting one for a while now.  He's a collector of sorts.  Some nice looking stuff and some not so nice looking stuff.  I won't go into the details of that.
Anyway, we just didn't really have a place for one and I was kind of leery about spending that kind of money on one and then have him put stuff like Lil' Chuck cars in there!  Lol

With my living room back to my living room, I decided we could put one in there.  I was happy with the one he picked out, he let me state my opinion even though it was his bday present, but he made the final decision and did a fantastic job!  He went and picked it up on Saturday and got it all set up.  We were very fortunate to have our nephew Shawn here when he got home with it to help him get it in the house, Thanks, Shawn!

He spent the better part of the day going through his "stuff" deciding what to put in there and arranging it just so!  He did a really good job with it!  It's beautiful!  I don't know what I was worried about!!

On Monday, his actual Bday, we stopped at a DI Thrift store (something he likes to do)...I found my Easter dress!  Then we came home to make dinner.  I made his favorite, turkey hamburgers.  The kids gave him the rest of his presents and we ate yummy Ooey Gooey Peanut Butter Brownies (of course I replaced the oil with bean puree!)  I'll have to post about that soon. Lol

I just put a random number of candles on the top for him to blow out because I didn't want to mess with 49 all over the top!  Party Pooper, I know!! I'll have to do something special for next year!!

Aaron's Basketball!!

Aaron came home last week with a brand new basketball!!

He won it in a reading raffle at school.  Every quarter they give the kids raffle tickets for every 100 minutes they read.  Then they raffle off prizes.  Twice a year they give away bicycles!

Anyway, Aaron won a basketball....

You never saw a more excited young man to have his very own basketball!!

Emily's Haircut

Before

Emily has been bugging me to go get her hair cut, and I finally got around to it.  Actually we went on the last day of Spring Break.  I'm a little late in posting. lol

After

I am so glad that Melanie came with us.  She has a lot better hair savvy than I do.  We would have cut it way too short.  She suggested not as short but layer and thin it. She knew exactly what to tell the stylist and I think it turned out pretty good.  Melanie said she did  a great job!

Before

There's not a huge difference, but we did take off 4 or 5 inches, then she layered and thinned it out quite a bit.  Emily has super thick hair, I couldn't get my hand around her pony tail.  I used to have to buy her the extra big elastic bands and she would get head aches if she kept it in a pony tail too long.   She would always wear it down with a head band and because it was so long and thick it would end up looking like a big mop by the end of the day.  She still wears her hair down but because it's in a cute cut style it looks tons better!

I think she's happy!!

Spring Break????

I had to change my back ground, I looked at Easter and Spring ones but just couldn't bring myself to put those on when this is outside my door!!

I settled on a sort of colorful snowflake one.  I hope I can change it to a springyer (is that a word??) one next week!!

We are all very sad to see all this snow during our spring break!  Not a fun way to spend the last day of spring break!!

You would think it would force us to stay inside and be very productive in the house,  No not us!  We want to play...

Hogle Zoo

Doug was very good to keep me apprised of the weather for the week.  He knew I wanted to take the kids to the zoo.  So with the forecast predicting yuckiness most of the week Tuesday was our best shot at the zoo!

We renewed our member ship and even upgraded!  We get unlimited train and carousel rides this year! I love my membership, because I don't feel like I have to go and stay all day to get my money's worth.  We can go for a few hours walk around,  play on the playground and go home.  That's just what we did!

And of course rode the train and carousel.  In the past we didn't get to do this very much at $2 a person!! I think they rode about $50 worth of rides this time!!  It adds up fast when you have 5 of them!! lol

Train Museum in Ogden

On Wednesday, it wasn't such a bad day.  It was a little chilly but the sun was still out.  We decided to go swimming.  I didn't take any pictures though, just didn't think to bring my camera to the pool! lol

On Thursday morning I found out my friend was headed to the train museum and invited myself to come along! Lol.  It's actually called Union Station and it has a train museum, a car museum and gun museum all at the same place for one price. We were way more interested in the train museum!

It was pretty cloudy, windy and cold when we got there.  We decided to let the kids play on the big train outside for a little bit before we went in because it was looking pretty scary as far as weather was concerned.  It's a good thing we did, because before we were done, it was not only raining, but it was pouring and hailing!

They had a lot of things to look at as well as hands on things for the kids!  It was  Fun!

He just wouldn't get on the train with the rest of the kids!

This is an old switch board.
Inside a replica of a caboose car!

Blowing the train whistle!
Do you remember Aaron's smashed thumb?
This is where it got smashed!

On the way home we stopped at a Deseret Industries Thrift Store.  The kids have been bugging me for weeks, (my kids are weird!!) lol  They each picked out a toy and we headed home.

By dinner time the rain had turned to snow and it looks like we're stuck with it until Sunday!  Maybe now we'll get a little done in the house???  Who knows!!! Maybe we'll just play, read and watch movies!!  LOL

In the Shower!

I don't usually take pictures of the kids in the shower but I just had to take these!

I give the kids showers just about every night, but I don't wash the girls hair every night.  This particular night, I told Nattie we needed to get her in the shower, so she took the initiative and went into the bathroom and got all undressed and took out her braids as well.  This happened to be a "no hair" night, so I had to pull her moppy hair up on her head so it wouldn't get wet.  I just couldn't resist taking this picture with her beehive hair all flopping around on her head!!

Tiffany thought it was terrible I was taking pictures in the shower, well she's right!! Lol  But once I showed her I was being careful, she wanted in on the act!  She said take one of me too and this is what she pulled....

Hilarious!!

Nattie wanted one more all clean in her "bug" pajamas.  These are her favorite pajamas because we call her Nattie Bug!  You can't see it I guess, there's a cute little bug on the front!
