Anyway, He was surprised to hear about the event, and we started to make plans. Since it was going to be his birthday during the week, we decided to bring the family and have a little birthday celebration for him! We, the kids and I (Doug was in Vegas for work), rented some rooms and drove up on Saturday. I brought him a bed, he's been sleeping on an air mattress on the floor for 6 plus months! As well as a few other things he couldn't fit in his car. So as soon as we got there, we unloaded the van and totally rearranged his little tiny room to accommodate what we brought. These pics don't do it justice to see just how small this room is, and it's a mess because we just moved everything all over the place to add the bed and file cabinets! But you get the idea. He shares a bathroom and kitchen. It's really small, but seems to be perfect for him, and you can't beat $140 a month for a college student!!
It was great to see where he lives and just how close he is to the bldgs he frequents for school and church. We did get a tire fixed on his car, then we got some pizza and headed to the park with the kids. Shawn took us to an really awesome Dinosaur Park. We were talking to someone there, she told us this park was put together and funded entirely by the community in just a couple of days. It was huge and it super fun!! My camera for some reason wasn't taking the best of pics, not to mention the fact that it was getting dark as well. But here are a few pics.
This is only the entrance!
We were late enough, I let them play and eat as they wanted so they would have time to play.
The tire swing was a huge hit!
The next morning we got up and got up and headed to the YSA Ward. They obviously didn't have any primary or YW classes so we just stuck together, the boys with the boys and the girls with the girls. Tiff was pretty funny, she decided to do portraits of the sisters around her. She would look around and "spot" someone she wanted to draw. Then she would stare at them, you know to "take in" their features, then she would draw them, Autograph it, and give it to them. Then she would scan the room for her next portrait. It was pretty funny! Natalie saw the reactions of the sisters, and started to draw pictures for people as well! It made for a great activity and kept them both busy all through Sunday School, as well as Relief Society!
After church, they served us a nice lunch, and we headed home. It was so nice to spend the time with Shawn in his element and to get to see where he lives, works, school, church, etc. He's currently enrolled in 18 credit hours on pretty much a full scholarship. He also has some music students, as well as in the school plays and church choirs. He is doing well and keeping himself pretty busy!!
Happy Birthday, Shawn! I can hardly believe that I have been a mom for 24 years!!!
